Brian Sims BA (Hons) Hon FSyI is the Editor of Security Matters and Fire Safety Matters magazines at Western Business Media and directly responsible for content generation across formats encompassing the print journals, websites, e-newsletters and the ongoing CPD webinar/podcast series in addition to social media.

In November 2000, Brian was appointed Editor of Security Management Today (SMT) by The Builder Group having spent ten years in engineering journalism at the same company working across two titles – Building Services Journal and Light & Lighting (for which he won an industry award).

Brian received the British Security Industry Association’s Chairman’s Award for ‘Promoting The Security Industry’ in 2005 and, a year later, the Skills for Security Special Award for an ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Security Business Sector’.

In 2008, as Group Content Editor for UBM Live’s Security Portfolio, Brian was The Security Institute’s nomination for the Association of Security Consultants’ highly prestigious Imbert Prize.

On two occasions, Brian has been shortlisted for The George van Schalkwyk Award bestowed by The Security Institute. This also recognises an outstanding contribution to the security industry.

2014 witnessed Brian appointed as Editor of Risk UK at Pro-Activ Publications and he was responsible for launching The Paper – a dedicated fortnightly business newspaper for the security and fire profession.

Through time, Brian has served as a judge for many industry award schemes including the British Security Awards, the Inspiration in HR Awards and Skills for Security’s National Training Awards.

His commentary on the security sector has featured several times in The London Evening Standard, while the ‘Four Issues One Voice’ B2B campaign orchestrated by SMT in 2004 was laid before the Home Office.
