Mark has almost 20 years of experience in selling business to business. Working previously as a Security Integrator, selling Fire, Intruder, CCTV and Access Control solutions, he has now added manufacturing to this with his current role for the last 4 years at Avigilon. He has been personally involved in the deployment of high-resolution Video Analytics & Artificial Intelligence projects within sectors including Banking, Sports & Leisure, Government, Critical Infrastructure as well as Monitored Environments.
Michael is uniquely positioned to understand the needs of professional security installers, having originally started his career at an NSI registered installation company, and was quickly promoted to the role of Senior Engineer. As Southern Area Sales Manager for Texecom Michael supports a wide range of installation companies, combining his commercial and technical knowledge to offer tailored solutions to meet their business requirements.
A graduate in Chemistry from University of London, John Davies joined TDSi in 2003 when it was owned by Norbain SD Limited and led the management buyout in February 2005. TDSi manufactures electronic access control and integrated security systems. Export sales have grown from 25% of the business to 40+%.
John is active with the BSIA (British Security Industry Association) having been Chairman of the Export Council and is also an industry representative on the Security Sector Advisory Group (SSAG) for UKTI DSO.
Phil Matthews has worked in the security industry since 1988, starting his career with a national installer before joining Honeywell Security in 1996. During that time he has gained extensive knowledge and experience supporting integrators, service providers and end users.
Within Honeywell, Phil plays a key role introducing Honeywell’s MAXPRO Cloud, cloud based business platform, to the industry.
Phil is also a member of the Security Institute.
National Specification Manager assisting Developers and Consulting engineers in specifying Comelit Door Entry, Access Control, CCTV and Home Automation products on residential and commercial developments as well as managing and growing a team of specification Managers within Comelit UK.
20 years’ experience in the mechanical & electrical specification environment throughout the UK with various manufacturers.
Chris established his Company Design Security Ltd in 2011, which is based in South Wales and has extensive experience in assessing security requirements, as well as hands-on experience delivering security design for major projects such as the main stadium for London 2012. Chris has developed Design Security Ltd portfolio of projects ranging from advice in hostile environments for Oil and Gas clients, through to writing strategic security papers for a UK-based financial sector client.
Chris holds BSc (Hons) in Social Policy and Criminology and the ASIS International Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) qualifications. Chris is the ASIS UK Chapter 208 Company Secretary and Board Director.
Rick Mounfield MSc CSyP FSyI completed his career in the Royal Military Police in 2011 as a Regimental Sergeant Major. His career spanned 23 years, an accumulated 8 years of which were served on operational tours. He was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal by HM the Queen in 2011 for his outstanding career including Close Protection services to British Ambassadors and Senior Generals in hostile countries.
When he retired, he was licensed by the SIA as a CP Operator. Between 2011 and 2017, Rick worked exclusively in the UHNW security arena, employing Close Protection Officers and security specialists in roles across the world.
He is one of only 140 Security Specialists in the UK to be awarded the highest award of Chartered Security Professional (CSyP). He has an MSc in Security Management from Loughborough Uni and is currently studying for an Executive MBA with Cranfield Uni School of Management.
The disparity between those that were professional and those that were not had a marked impact on Rick’s decision to accept his current role of Chief Executive at the Security Institute. He now drives the strategic aims of the Institute, one of which is to encourage professional development and continuous learning.
Peter is a Charted Security Professional (CSyP) with a BA (Hons) in security consulting, and a Certified Technical Security Professional (CTSP) qualified in security and emergency alarm systems. With a passion for designing ground breaking, high end Integrated Security Solutions, he is a respected and experienced practitioner in the physical security field, having spent 40 years gaining considerable knowledge and understanding of security technology and the principles and practices of protecting people and assets, along with the ethics necessary for leading a respected company.
Mark has 29+ years' experience in the security industry and has provided strategic consultancy on major projects including rail, medical facilities, retail and education facilities. He is a highly innovative and extremely motivated individual with a strong background in threat and risk assessment linked to operational requirements and procedures.
Mark is currently employed at Arup as an Associate in the Resilience, Security and Risk Group, based in London, UK.
Having previously served in the British military as a counter terrorism specialist, Andy Palmer went on to spend several years in the immigration field before joining the Gatwick Airport security team. Whilst at the airport Andy has led the introduction and development of a Behavioural Detection programme which is now considered by many to be leading best practice in the subject. Internationally recognised as a subject matter expert on behavioural detection and security awareness, Andy has spoken globally on the topic and advised various critical national infrastructure and crowded place sites on the matter.
Andy is currently supporting government led trials in High Footfall Screening Technologies, developing future strategies and tactics for widespread implementation. Andy is a member of the International Association of Critical National Infrastructure Professionals with further expertise in areas including Border and aviation security.
With more than 40 years of experience at BT, Phil has worked in every division of the company including Consumer, Global Services and BT Business across over 15 countries throughout Europe, Asia and America. Phil recently joined the Digital Voice Industry Engagement team after six years with BT Redcare.
Rob started his working career as a junior in a graphic design studio and left to start a Technical Apprenticeship with Lucas Industries. On completion of his apprenticeship Rob pursued a career in Electronics and Telecommunications and has since held several engineering positions.
Rob then joined BT Redcare in 2005 and was appointed as UK North Technical Support Manager in 2006, later in 2011, joined the Redcare sales team as North Regional Technical Manager, a role which he enjoys immensely.
Professor Martin Gill is a criminologist and Director of Perpetuity Research. He has published extensively including 14 books. Martin is a Fellow of The Security Institute, a member of the Company of Security Professionals and a Trustee of the ASIS Foundation. In 2010 he was recognised by the BSIA with a special award for ‘outstanding service to the security sector’, in 2016 he won the Imbert Prize and ASIS International awarded him a Presidential Order of Merit for distinguished service. Martin is the Founder of the Outstanding Security Performance Awards (the OSPAs).

Dr Emma Philpott is CEO of the IASME Consortium Ltd, a company which focuses on information assurance for small companies and the supply chain. IASME worked with the UK government to develop the Cyber Essentials scheme and then was one of the first two Accreditation Bodies for the associated assessment. IASME has issued more than 8,000 certificates to date which amounts to more than 40% of all those awarded.
Emma is also Founder and Manager of the UK Cyber Security Forum, a network of more than 600 small companies working in cyber security across the UK. The Forum is leading on an initiative to train unemployed neuro-diverse adults in cyber security and supporting them to find employment. 56% of these individuals have now found employment since the training began in June 2018.

Ellie is the Marcomm & Media Manager at Advent IM Ltd. She is a presenter of many years’ standing and joined the security industry in 2011. Ellie is now a regular industry commentator, speaker and editorial contributor on a range of security topics, including cyber security, the language of security, the Internet of Things, Ransomware, threat convergence, and cyber threat to physical assets. Ellie is an Associate member and enthusiastic supporter of both the Security Institute and the Institute of Information Security Professionals, IISP.
Andrew advises Darktrace’s strategic Fortune 500 customers on advanced threat detection, machine learning and autonomous response. He has a technical background in threat analysis and research, and holds a first-class degree in physics from Oxford University and a first-class degree in philosophy from King’s College London. He was most recently featured on BBC World, BBC Morning and Al Jazeera to comment on the news regarding the GRU.
Following a highly successful 10 year career in the Police Service, David formed Linx International Ltd in 1987. Since then, the Linx International Group is one of the worlds most respected security training companies in the world - with Tavcom Training, PerpetuityARC Training, Linx Consultancy and CTSP rounding up the group.
Benjamin Weld is the chief executive and co-founder of FalconDHQ, a software solution for the private security industry and corporate partner of The Security Institute. Previously a frontline operator in the security industry, Weld is a guest editor of The Professional Security Officer magazine and a contributor to The RegTech Book, which was used in the Cambridge University Global Benchmarking Study. Weld is currently an executive education student of Machine Learning at Columbia University.
TV's Human Lie Detector and Body Language Expert, Darren Stanton began his UK Television and Media career when he was asked to assess the politicians during the TV Live debate for the General Election.
Prior to this Darren spent his days investigating and dealing with liars, cheats and criminals as a Police Officer.
Since then Darren has been a regular on our TV screens and Radio with appearances on some of the nations biggest shows.
He’s also a sought after keynote speaker with recent appearances at the International Security Expo at The London Olympia and recently at a TED talk.
Andrew has made a career out of technology innovation, turning market needs into products and turning client aspirations into functioning solutions.
Andrew’s unique expertise lies in having the vision to follow strategic concepts through to systems operation. Often operating at Board level, Andrew works to define corporate strategy, together with key stakeholder engagement, including the security agencies. He has extensive experience in assessing security requirements, as well as hands-on experience in delivering integrated solutions.
He worked as a business entrepreneur prior to joining BuroHappold Engineering, and has brought expert knowledge to key integrated security and safety projects. He has a track record of innovation and delivering system solutions, including developing security products that are manufactured and deployed in ‘Blue Chip’ and Government estates throughout the UK. His recent assignments have included working with City Authorities, the Olympic Delivery Authority, Quintain, QinetiQ, Crown Estate Paving Commission, together with UK Government Agencies on major infrastructure projects.
Andrew also provides support for UK/ international professional bodies and universities, in developing and encouraging technical competencies and rigour within the security discipline. This has led to being appointed as a professional reviewer (PRI) and sector expert on the ‘Institution of Engineering Technology’ (IET) ‘Presidents List.’ He sits on the ‘Institute of Civil Engineers’ steering group of the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES), chairs the RSES Academic Qualifications Group and has led the development of the technical report route for membership. In addition he is a member of the IET Cyber Security Steering Committee – setting the agenda for IET’s Cyber professional development standards. Andrew has also developed stakeholder security engagement programmes for industry/ Government agencies, to ensure best practice is delivered and shared across project design teams, alongside authoring publications in security engineering.
Neil is lead partner at Farrells architect/planning practice for strategic infrastructure and urban design projects. An architect-planner with over 30 years experience in the creative and enabling aspects of place-shaping and built environment projects, Neil is currently advising both public and private sector clients on the development impact of some of UK’s major planned infrastructure investments. His work with Farrells includes the Thames Gateway, the campaign for ‘urban greening’, and for holistic sustainable planning of the UK’s transport infrastructure.
