DeterTech’s SmartWater™ technology featured by College of Policing for innovative retail crime prevention
DeterTech’s forensic marking technology, SmartWater™, has been featured by the College of Policing as an example of best practice in retail crime prevention.

The article, written by Christopher Chaloner of Devon and Cornwall Police, explores how SmartWater™ has been successfully used to deter the theft of fragrance testers from retail environments. By marking high-value items with a traceable forensic solution, police can directly link recovered goods and suspects to specific incidents, providing powerful evidence to support investigations and prosecutions.

The initiative, developed collaboratively between DeterTech, retailers, and police forces, demonstrates the continuing success of SmartWater™ in reducing retail theft and supporting safer communities.

Dave Lewis, Police Relationship Manager at DeterTech, said:
“We’re proud to see SmartWater™ recognised by the College of Policing as an effective and practical tool for preventing retail crime. This initiative reflects the strength of our partnerships with police forces like Devon and Cornwall and the shared commitment to protecting businesses, staff, and communities.”

Recognition by the College of Policing reinforces the effectiveness of forensic marking solutions in tackling both opportunistic and organised crime, while strengthening collaboration between law enforcement and the retail sector.
