Wireless CCTV Ltd manufactures and supplies rapid deployment CCTV towers that offer complete security coverage for remote and temporary sites — especially those related to short- and medium-term construction projects. With many of these sites lacking mains power, Wireless CCTV sought a dependable off-grid power solution to support continuous operation of their systems while reducing costs and environmental impact.

Most remote construction sites have no access to grid electricity, forcing reliance on generators or long-run batteries. While generators provide power, they are noisy, emit carbon emissions, and require frequent maintenance. Batteries, though quieter and cleaner, require regular recharging or replacement, which can lead to service disruptions and frequent site visits. Wireless CCTV needed a power source that could offer long runtimes, lower operational overhead, and maintain reliable 24/7 security — even in the most inaccessible locations.

To address these challenges, Wireless CCTV integrated SFC EFOY Pro direct methanol fuel cells from Fuel Cell Systems Ltd into their CCTV towers. The fuel cells operate in hybrid mode with batteries and are housed within the towers, enabling continuous, autonomous operation for up to 8 weeks. This setup reduces the need for regular engineer site visits, simplifies refuelling logistics, and supports deployment in the most remote areas — all while operating quietly and efficiently. 

The use of EFOY Pro fuel cells has transformed Wireless CCTV’ s ability to deliver off-grid security solutions. The towers now offer longer runtimes, enhanced flexibility, and improved health and safety in terms of installation and maintenance. Daniel del Soldato from Wireless CCTV stated that the EFOY Pro has “helped us change the way we do business, ” by enabling security deployment in locations previously deemed impractical. The EFOY continuously monitors the battery voltage, automatically turning on and off to charge the batteries. It effectively acts as a ‘battery charger ’ ensuring that the batteries are kept within the optimal voltage range. Compared to an internal combustion generator, the EFOY fuel cell has few moving parts providing higher levels of reliability and reduced noise levels. The only emissions it produces are tiny amount of carbon dioxide and water.
