Specialist Policing Detention Solutions is the sister company of Specialist Policing Consultancy (SPC), which was set up and is run by former senior police officers. For the past 15 years, SPC has worked with governments, police forces and organisations around the world, helping them investigate serious crimes against individuals through consultancy, training and international programmes. We have offices in the UK and Cyprus.

At The Security Event we are exhibiting the Safer Detention Unit (SDU), a secure holding unit for anyone who needs to detain a person lawfully and keep them safe until the police arrive or a decision is made. It was invented by Bernie Gravett. In shops and shopping centres, it gives security staff a safe place to hold someone away from the shop floor, protecting staff, customers and the person detained. At football grounds and events, it can be put in for a single match day, a whole season or permanently, and moved when it’s no longer needed.

For the police, it means a detained person can be dealt with on site instead of being taken to a custody suite, so officers can be back on patrol in around an hour rather than six to eight.

The SDU arrives flat-packed and our team can install it in 40 minutes in almost any existing space. It is ligature free and comes with CCTV and audio recording, lighting and powered air circulation. The door has high-security glass panels, so staff can keep watch on the person inside without opening it.

All we need is a flat floor and a standard wall socket, and it’s fully operational.
