Polymer Optics
Polymer Optics Limited (POL). An innovative, exceptionally talented team who love nothing more than the challenge of engineering a bespoke solution for your lighting problem.
We work with world-leading manufacturers in automotive, lighting, white goods, safety and defence to achieve not only the best optics possible, but to lower the cost of production as well.
We employ a highly skilled core technical team with over 30 years’ experience each in optical design, manufacture, and ancillary processes.
POL designers have been at the forefront of PIR lens design for over 25 years. Our in-house developed ray-trace software can accurately predict the performance of the PIR lens before committing to tooling.
We also develop novel manufacturing methods for precision tooling manufacture that these lenses demand and high-quality moulded lenses.
POL has developed free form surface design and mould tool manufacturing techniques that allow the creation of optical surfaces, which can direct light from an LED source into non-circular or elliptical beams with a controlled distribution of light within those areas.
This technology allows luminaire manufacturers to significantly increase the efficiency and quality with which their products can illuminate wide areas compared with products based on TIR optics or reflectors.
Free-Form optics are most commonly found in street lighting, but since the first designs completed by POL in March 2010, they have been used in a wide range of applications, such as beacons and emergency lighting.
Our expert knowledge and design software development enables us to provide precision, impact resistant, eye protection optics for applications such as: fire protection, motorcycle visors, industrial PPE and military systems.
Customer product designs are imported to POL’s design software’s where we adjust and optimise the surface forms to remove residual optical power and distortions, while maintaining the customer’s overall product styling and functions.
The design results are analysed in POL’s customised software’s and presented to the customer in an easily understood “functional test” simulation.
These simulations allow any residual optical effects to be quantified against the specification and visualised for their effects.
Goggles and visor products are designed to comply with the required European Automotive Regulations, BS EN Standards, Military DEF Standards, or other Class 1 optical requirements.
POL has also developed the necessary means to In Mould Labels (IML) which can be optical films to produce finished AR/VR visors and eye pieces as well as adding protection to the raw material.
All this unique knowledge and experience enables us to meet your specific product design developments, through prototyping when it is possible, to full manufacturing support as required. Our flexible approach enables us to provide the right solution and support to match your precise needs.
Using novel design software’s developed in-house, we cover all aspects of optical design applications, including passive infra-red, multi-colour ambient, accent lighting, sensors, free form lens control of light, visor design, imaging optical systems, IML of optical films on to your complex optical forms to give you a finished unit.
With our range of manufacturing partners around the globe, we can then support your tooling and production needs from simple low volume parts right up to large complex multi tool suits for high volume mass production.
If you’re looking for bespoke optic solutions for your project, please contact our experts to discuss your project in detail.
However, we do have a standard range of both holders and optics to suit a range of standard LED and typical applications.
Also in our range is a 7-cell cluster that has been used in a range of products with the different optical outputs from MR16 spot lights bot single colour and RGBW mixing though to high power large bundle fibre illumination, and we offer this in a number of materials for light throughput and heat including a silicone version.
